Are You Practicing Radical Self Care In Recovery?

The local Facebook group Connected Conversations met this past Friday night, where Charalaina Heard spoke on the topic of Radical Self Care.  Radical Self Care is a vital part of recovery and can be practiced daily.  It allows us the opportunity to refresh ourselves so we can tackle life stressors without being triggered.  It can be very simple and free, or it can be complex and expensive.  It’s your choice.

We can all benefit greatly from Radical self care during our recovery.  Recovery is hard and uncomfortable at times.  It is important we remember we cannot care for others if we don’t care for ourselves first.  In order to stay grounded in our recovery, we must learn the benefits of self care.  Here are a few benefits of Radical Self Care.

Benefits of Radical Self Care

  • Increased Mood
  • Ability to cope with triggers and cravings
  • More energy
  • Increased motivation
  • Gain concentration
  • Greater focus
  • Reduces stress
  • Better sleep
  • Stronger relationships
  • Increases self esteem
  • Improves productivity
  • Keeps you grounded in your recovery

It is important to remember Radical Self Care is NOT SELFISH!  We were being selfish in our active addiction, but self care gives us the opportunity to be present – for ourselves, our loved ones, and our community.  It allows us to show up ready to tackle whatever life has to throw at us without the use of substances to cope.  The more we find ways to incorporate self care into our daily lives the easier recovery can become.  BE RADICAL IN YOUR SELF CARE!!!
